Frequently Asked Questions
  • What health and safety measures do you have in place for COVID-19?
Up-to-date health and safety measures for Haiku Mill can be found here. Please note that these measures change regularly in accordance with Maui County and the State of Hawaii.
  • Do you have to rent the venue for the whole day?
Absolutely not. Haiku Mill offers smaller time blocks during the week (Monday through Wednesday) for couples who may only want to hold a ceremony and/or cocktail hour, or a smaller wedding and dinner reception; or to take photos, or host brunch or rehearsal dinners. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays are reserved exclusively for full day events that end at 10pm. Please note that only one event per week is permitted to go until 10pm. Please inquire regarding availability.
  • How much does it cost to rent Haiku Mill?
The cost to rent Haiku Mill’s property is based on the amount of time you would like it for, as well as the day of the week. Please inquire regarding this information.
  • Why does a full day event have to end by 10pm, and a weekday event end by 8pm?
Maui County requires that Haiku Mill stops all noise by 10pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and weekday events at 8pm, due to County-enforced noise ordinances. This is typical at the majority of outdoor venues across the island.
  • Can I reserve a date without a deposit at Haiku Mill?
We are happy to put a 14-day soft hold on a date at Haiku Mill for you, without a deposit. If we do not hear from you by the 14th day, the date will be released to the next inquiring individual.
  • How much does it cost if I want to have my photos taken at Haiku Mill but I'm getting married somewhere else?
We offer a 1.5 hour minimum photoshoot, which begins upon arrival on property and ends on your departure off property. Most people think they will only need 30-45 minutes, but believe us - once you start shooting in all the amazing spots around the property you and your photographer are not going to want to stop. This also allows time for makeup and hair touch ups, getting into your gown if need be, enjoying a toast under the mango tree, and time for your photographer to arrive before you to scout the property and set up equipment. Please find current pricing here.
  • What is the availability of the venue?
Maui County enforces certain parameters on the days and length of events we can hold weekly to ensure our residential community is kept peaceful for all local residents. Venue availability will depend on what type of event you would like to hold and until what time in the day or evening.
  • Why would I want to hold my wedding on a weekday? I thought everyone held them on Saturdays.
Typically, most people hold their weddings on weekends when they get married close to home, because friends and family have to work during the week. But when you are holding a destination wedding, most guests have taken the week off for a vacation. Holding your wedding in the middle of the week helps give your guests a few days to arrive, get settled in their hotels and adjust to the time change before the big day. If they have taken a week-long vacation they then have the days following the wedding to relax and enjoy the island, and have time to travel home again. Many guests appreciate not having to leave the Sunday morning after a Saturday wedding.
  • What is the venue's capacity?
Due to COVID-19, currently the venue can only accommodate a maximum of 100 people, including venue staff, vendors and guests, at one time. Your maximum guest count will be determined by how many vendors you require.
  • Where is Haiku Mill located?
Haiku Mill is located in the small town of Haiku on the island of Maui in the state of Hawaii.
  • What is the weather like in Haiku?
Haiku is located on the north shore of Maui, which experiences rain on a daily basis. These are usually in the form of passing showers lasting anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes during the day, but Haiku can often receive heavy rainfall in the evenings. As part of the contingency plan, all full-day events are required to rent one large tent to cover the open foyer and dining area, located inside the Mill. Additional tents may be required for large groups. The cost of these tents is not included in your site fee and must be ordered through Haiku Mill to ensure installation and tie downs are properly and safely performed due to the delicate nature of the property and structure. You will be charged by Haiku Mill separately from your site fee. Please inquire about pricing.
  • Can we pick any vendor we want, or use a friend?
Haiku Mill works with a group of carefully selected preferred vendors. These vendors understand the historic and delicate nature of the property, have experience working events at this unique location, possess the required insurance that enables them to work on the property and, most importantly, are trusted and professional.

Haiku Mill permits a friend or family member to be used for the following services without incurring any fees:

    Officiant
    Hair Stylist
    Makeup artist
    Musician

If you would like to use your own wedding planner or coordinator, they will first have to be approved by Haiku Mill, submit the proper insurance coverage and documentation, and agree to the terms of the venue. They will also be required to partner with one of our trusted planning and production partners during the planning process and on the day of your event. These partners understand the guidelines at Haiku Mill, as well as Maui County rules and regulations assigned to the venue. There will be an added cost for this service, billed by the company you choose to work with.

Vendors that must be used off of Haiku Mill’s preferred vendor list are:

    Caterer
    Transportation
    DJ
    Fire Dancers
    Bar Service

If you choose to use a vendor in another category that is not listed above, such as a photographer, videographer, band, etc., there will be an associated outside vendor fee in order to process the required insurance paperwork, review venue procedures, meet with them in advance and supervise them on the day of the event. This fee as of 2020 is $650 per vendor.
  • Can our guests park at Haiku Mill?
Due to limited parking on site, you will have limited parking spaces for full day events due to vendor requirements for parking. Typically you will have two parking spaces available to you for a full day event. The remainder of your guests will have to be shuttled to the venue with one of our preferred transportation vendors. These costs are not included in your site fee and will be billed separately.

In most cases, smaller, daytime ceremonies can accommodate you and your guests parking at the venue, however this will be determined during the wedding planning process.
  • Where should we stay on the island if we are hosting our wedding or event at Haiku Mill?
We suggest you stay in Wailea, Kihei or Maui's beautiful Upcountry. Although the west side (Lahaina, Kannapali, Kapalua and Napili) is beautiful, there is only one highway in and out. If there is any delay on the highway it can lead to increased drive times, which may cause your guests to be late for your wedding or event. If you would like to explore that side of the island we suggest you move to a west side hotel after your wedding day or plan a day trip.
  • Can we schedule a tour of Haiku Mill?
Currently, only couples who are actively seeking a venue may schedule in-person tours. Due to COVID-19, there limited availability. Please inquire if you are interested in touring Haiku Mill.
